Chapter 7

If you don't remember how the story starts here are the links to the previous chapters: Prologue, Chapter 1 , Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Chapter 5, Chapter 6, and now Chapter 7:

Kaleigh woke to the sound of a bell that was being rung in the hall. Slowly she sat up and looked down at her wrinkled outfit. Emily and Amber lay in bed still, they didn’t look like they would be getting up soon so Kaleigh went into the bathroom. The bathroom had gray tiles on the floor and walls, and the same dull white ceiling as the rest of the rooms. It was clear where people had walked through the room because the walked on tiles were a little less gray or, as Kaleigh realized upon further examination, a little less dusty. Kaleigh washed up quickly and then went to the closet to change into new clothes for the day. She picked out white stockings and a blue dress. After getting dressed Kaleigh looked at her schedule to find out which books she would need to bring for each of her morning classes,

07:00 am - Wake up 647
08:00 am - Breakfast Cafeteria
08:40 am - Math 1128
09:30 am - History 1006
10:20 am - Music 812
11:10 am - Art 722
12:15 pm - Lunch Cafeteria

Not knowing when each class ended and the next began Kaleigh brought books for every class that she had before lunch. This was quite a stack, including the books: Basic Algebra, World History, Music Theory, and Famous Works of Art. The last two books were thin, but the first two were well over 300 pages. Kaleigh was wondering how she was possibly going to carry all of these books with her when she spotted something under her desk. It was a dull blue shoulder bag; Kaleigh stuffed the four books and a brightly colored folder for each class into the shoulder bag. The bag bulged with the weight of the books. Kaleigh sighed and pulled out Basic Algebra, deciding that she could carry the book for whichever class was coming next.
Setting the shoulder bag and Algebra book neatly on her bed Kaleigh started to head down to breakfast, on her way down she passed several groups of chattering girls. Some of the girls turned and watched as Kaleigh passed but most of the girls were too busy talking to notice. When she was about to enter the Cafeteria she heard her name called.
“Kaleigh, Kaleigh dear, come over here a moment please.” Kaleigh looked and saw that it was Dani that was calling her. Dani had a few adults with her. Curious, Kaleigh walked over. When she was closer Dani greeted her more formally, “Good morning, did you sleep well?”
“Yes,” Kaleigh replied sheepishly “I slept very well.”
Dani smiled kindly at Kaleigh, “I’m glad, I would like to introduce you to some of your teachers,” Dani gestured towards the first teacher, “This is Mrs. Palantri, she will be your English instructor.” Mrs. Palantri was about 5 foot 4 inches; she had short chocolate-brown hair and a huge smile spread across her face. Kaleigh liked her immediately; Mrs. Palantri was the type of teacher whose enthusiasm was contagious.
“Pleased to meet you,” Kaleigh said returning Mrs. Palantri’s smile. After Mrs. Palantri had returned the pleasantry Dani went on to introduce Mr. Kristofferson he will be your music instructor.
Mr. Kristofferson was a man of average build, with blonde hair and blue eyes; he knelt down and shook Kaleigh’s hand, “Mr. Kristofferson is a bit of a mouthful to say every time someone needs my attention, you may call Mr. K to keep things a little easier.” Kaleigh smiled, more at the fact that he too was friendly than by the easier name to remember.
When Mr. Kristofferson stood back up Dani motioned towards another man. This man had an air of arrogance about him. Kaleigh didn’t need to be told who he was to know that she didn’t want to be with him again. “Kaleigh this is Dr. Fortry, he is the head of the orphanage administration board.” Dr. Fortry glared down at Kaleigh as if she were something disgusting, rather than a little girl. After nodding politely to each other Dani dismissed Kaleigh into the cafeteria. Kaleigh was getting used to meals at the orphanage, she went through the line, took her food and went to sit in the same seat she had at the other meals. Kaleigh’s mind was buzzing with thought, she was thinking things that any kind person would think upon meeting someone like Dr. Fortry, why on earth would you have a job where you are working with orphans if you do not like them. This is a very puzzling question, and no matter where you are working you are bound to find someone like that, someone that dislikes their job, and yet they continue to perform it, however poorly, thus making others miserable. Kaleigh was speculating this while she ate, she was so deep in her thoughts that she probably wouldn’t have noticed if anyone had started talking to her, which was for the better, as no one did.

awwwwwwwwwwww that is a really sad ending to a chapter.

and that last sentence was three lines- run on run on! haha. well, if you were typing it somewhere else it wouldn't be a runon though, so i guess i'll forgive you.

I like Mr. Kristofferson's name. seriously. I don't think I could've come up with a cooler name than what you did. haha. Don't make the English teacher like Ms Totty! Mine's already like her. haha.

What an evil administrator.

I hope Kaleigh makes friends soon.
