Mississippi Day Two

Sunday
February 12, 2006

Today was different from all of the others, because today instead of just working we also attended church. At 6:15 in the morning the Perkins brought us breakfast to our trailer and we all woke up grabbed something to eat, ate it quickly, and then went back to bed until nine or ten - ish. When we got up we dressed in church clothes and went into the sanctuary. The service was very interesting, they talked about epigraphs on tombstones, and how you should try to make people remember you for following God.

After church we went back to our trailers and changed into clothes appropriate for working. Today we worked as one team. We all went to the house of Pastor David Oliver, his yard was full of debris. We were able to create a huge pile at the corner of the yard to be taken away later. This job was very quickly accomplished because though there was a lot of debris having 17 people on one project makes the job go by rather quickly. While we were there we ate the lunch that had been packed for us, Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwichs and chips, cookies, crackers, fruit...and drinks. It was very yummy lol.

After we prayed of Mr. Olivers house we left to go to another work site. At this site, Ms. Audreys house, we were doing debris cleanup but this debris was harder than the insulation and shingles and other random items in Mr. Olivers yard. The debris at Ms. Audreys house was all branches and logs from trees that had fallen in her yard. We would take handfuls of branches or one big log and carry them to a pile we had created across the street. We were a bit disappointed to find out that we were not going to be working on Ms. Audreys house which was in need of much construction but we were told that the next group coming down was going to do construction on her house.

One very cool thing about this work project was what we saw just down the street. Extreme Makeover Home Edition was working on a house about 8 houses away from where we were working. We went over and took pictures from across the street although we didn't see any of the "main workers" like Ty, it was still very cool.

After we left Ms. Audreys we went back to our trailers and washed up for dinner, then some people went to bed, while others stayed up and played scrabble, that was fun! LOL Then those people went to bed.

I thought that I would also share with you a bible verse that we read today, that really struck all of us as strong and useful.

1 Corinthians 12 verses 4-7
"God gives us many kinds of special gifts. It is the same Holy Spirit who is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service to God. But it is the same Lord we are serving. There are many ways in which God works in all of us. The Holy Spirit shows God's power through each of us. it is a way of helping the whole church."

Luv ya all!
