Today was our first full work day, and today was a lot of fun for me. Today we split into to groups...I honestly do not remember what the other group was doing at the beginning of the day but my group was roofing! I was so excited because I LOVE heights I LOVE being up high, LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! So when I found out that I was going to be on a roof all day I was kinda really psyched! The roofing project started with us tearing all the shingles off the roof. So we sat down on the roof and pulled of shingles piece by piece and then we took either hammers or specialized shovels and pulled out the huge staples that had held the shingles on. This was a very long process that took us all the way up until lunch. I seriously think the person that applied the roof originally had gone staple happy and put about 5 more staples per shingle than necessary to hold the roof on. We were all very glad when we had finished removing the shingles.
We took lunch in shifts, about half of us came off the roof and ate while the other half placed down some tar paper so that when the first group finished lunch the second group could head up and start reapplying the shingles. (In case you wanted to know todays lunch was the same as yesterdays for the exception of ham and cheese sandwichs instead of PB+J. Lunch was amazing just as yesterdays!) Putting on the shingles was fun and interesting, there is definatly an art to shingle placing precision is necessary as we found out about 1/3 of the way through when we realized that the shingles were starting to curve down. We never became completely sure where the mistake started but since we were all working off of each other no one can really be blamed. Which is probably for the best anyways. An hour or two...or three after lunch the other team showed up and began to work. Their job was very difficult and I feel sorta sorry for them...All of the shingles that we had ripped off the roof and thrown to the ground were now being picked up by the other team (who were not complaining at all! God Bless Them!) Eventually (around 5) it was time to leave the worksite and go back to the trailers, the roof would be finished tomorrow, although not by me.
Once back at the trailers lots of people showered and then we went in for dinner which once again was amazing. All of our meals were amazing! Then playing games, scrabble and such, and lots of talking and then off to bed, hard day of work, followed by a much deserved rest!
