Biloxi Mississippi
Day 5
Wednesday, half way through the work week, this is the day that we need the extra strength to get through. I continued my work at the Harvey House. I began the day working with insulation, this was more difficult because my mother was on a painting team today, so she didn't cut it for me. But it still worked some. Then I was pulled off of that task by Ken. Bre took over insulating and I worked with Ken, Paige, and Tim on the front of the house.
It was fun working with Ken, Paige, and Tim. We were putting siding on the front, which was not too difficult though it did require precise measurements. Ken and I were a team and Paige and Tim were a team most of the time, so Ken and I would work cutting things and hanging them and then after a while Ken would get a phone call. Ken managed the work of a lot of teams so people constantly called him asking questions. After a while Paige came over and we worked with each other because Tim went off to do something, we were pretty proud of our accomplishments without the guys! We teased Ken for being on the phone all the time, and he of course teased us back for numerous things.
At one point Ken was on a ladder and he said something about getting help if he fell, and he was kidding and I said "Oh yeah, we would call 911" and then I thought for a second and I said "Wait, that's like national right, you would call 911 down here that's not just Pittsburgh.." and then I realized that that was stupid but Ken had already picked up on it and he was making fun of me. Then I said, "Well what about in Europe? Is it 911 in Europe? " Ken didn't know. I think it was Bre that had the idea of asking Ollie. He lived in Europe so he would know. So I asked him, he told me in Europe they dialed 999. So I told Ken, he laughed and applauded my research.
It was nice working with Ken. He made me feel like I was doing things right and that even when I made a mistake it was okay because it was fixable. At one point I was putting in finishing nails on the siding and I put in one and it went right on top of a regular nail, of course I had no way of knowing this would happen, but it did, and it was weird. The finishing nail hit the head of the regular nail and it twisted around and came out, this was pretty bad looking. when we got the finishing nail out it had taken a chunk out of the siding so Ken and Tim worked their magic and they got that piece of siding out and then a new one back in without anyone telling the difference.
A man named Doug Desilvi came and visited us to tell us that we were doing a good job. He had been interviewed on Extreme Makeover Home Edition for their Katrina episode. I believe that he lost his family in the flooding. He went through a hard time with Katrina. He lost most of his family. It was very encouraging meeting him. Shortly after meeting him it was time to get back to the village. As always we were reluctant to leave. It is always difficult to leave work undone, but we knew we would be returning the next day to work more.
So, after we prayed we went back to the village to prepare for dinner. It was fabulous of course, but a very cool thing happened at our group meeting when we were discussing how our day was we were each given a giftbag with some goodies. The bags were put together by two very thoughtful women at the church. We all felt so loved when we received that gift.
Special Love to my mission team!

I think a small part of the reason we use the digits 9-1-1 is because it's harder to dial accidentally. Think about it: if you had a cell phone without a flip cover and forgot to activate the keypad lock, it's very easy for the same button (9) to be pushed repeatedly. Then all you need is the send key, and that always happens more often than anyone wants.
Dialing 911 requires some degree of deliberacy. But it does happen accidentally sometimes.
Yeah, my friend had his phone on during school and it accidentally dialed 911 and they were really worried about him. Soon after that he got a flip phone.
