Day 4
Tuesday, our second work day. We were all pretty tired from the day before, but that wasn't slowing us down! We started the day by switching up the teams a little bit. Some of the people were going to paint these little houses that were right accross the football field from us. These houses were occupied by members of the Habitat for Humanity team.
The rest of us went to the Harvey house and continued the work from the day before. It was nice to drive up to the house seeing the work we had done the day before. Since most of us had been working on this project the day before we knew what needed to be done so we started working right away.
I worked mostly on insulation today. Either I, or one of the other girls would measure an area. Then we would tell my mother the measurement and she would cut the pieces and then she would hand them to me and I would staple the pieces in. We got pretty efficient throughout the day. We had people helping periodically but it was mostly the two of us as other people were moved to other projects throughout the house.
At the end of the day I think they were referring to me as the 'insulation queen' or 'insulation expert'. That was amusing.
Periodically we would pause our work to take breaks or wait for other sections to be completed, during these breaks we were able to talk to Darlene. She was such a pleasure to talk to, and she was wonderful to work with. It was much easier to go high on the ladder knowing that she was holding it steady below.
We finished most of the insulation on the sides, except around the windows. The back of the house was also started tearing the siding off of the back of the house. That was pretty much all the work that was done on this fourth day. But it was a very fun and workfilled day.
After work we went back to the village for dinner and then we had our meeting and we discussed our day and sang songs. I loved this part of the day, it was relaxing and fun. And, I love singing so that was a bonus. Today was special though because during our meeting we heard some other groups playing guitars so after we had our meeting Sue found Ollie a very nice sweet guy from London, and a charming woman named Dee from San Diego. The three of them played worship songs on the guitars and I sang along with them. Later some other people came and joined us. It was such a nice little gathering!
Shortly after that we all went to bed. With each day of work our strength dwindled. Our compassion, however, never wavered. And that is, after all, far more important than strength.
